Dr. Ermshar & Associates is proud to introduce companion and coaching services. This is a service we have been offering since 2016 but we want to tell you a bit more about it. Companion services encompass a variety of coaching strategies and interventions that are ultimately tailored to the individual client needs. Companion services include sober coaching, ADHD coaching, and direct support interventions. Here is a brief synopsis of each coaching area:
SOBER COMPANION
- Our sober coaches are in established recovery and are trustworthy, experienced, and professional individuals who are grateful to share their wellness habits, experience, strength and hope with you or your loved one. A sober companion accompanies the client for a contracted amount of timeâhours, days, weeks, or whatever is deemed necessary. A sober companion guides the client towards developing new, healthy habits that encourage continued sobriety and solidify their sobriety. Sober coaching seeks to bridge the gap from inpatient/detox services to the outside world, helping the client navigate the challenges of relapse prevention and reentry into the community.
DIRECT SUPPORT STAFF
- Direct support staff provides individual instruction, reinforcement, and support in the skills that are needed to live an independent and fulfilling life. Direct support is key to helping individuals access local resources, make connections and develop sustaining relationships, and live fully while moving toward greater independence at home and in the community. Our direct support staff meets with participants in their home, public setting, or at a partner site for one-on-one support in skill acquisition and experiential learning. Our direct support staff collaborates to develop individual program plans based on the clientâs social/emotional needs, preferences, and ongoing observations. Independent living skills include health and wellness, financial literacy, attitude, responsibility, motivation, conflict resolution, dealing with anger, stress reduction, communication, time management, decision making, goal/priority setting, designing a personal plan, resumes, and balancing family, work, and friends.
ADHD COACH
- Coaching for ADHD is an effective intervention that complements medication and other non-pharmacologic alternatives. ADHD coaching targets the core impairments of ADHD such as planning, time management, goal setting, organization, and problem solving. ADHD coaches acknowledge the biological underpinnings of the disorder (inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity); however, coaching addresses the academic, vocational, emotional, and interpersonal life difficulties that are a result of these symptoms and helps clients find ways to overcome these challenges. Through individualized planning and support, our coaches help adults and children with ADHD build and sustain motivation, maintain focus to achieve identified goals, and translate goals into concrete actions.
